This soup is okay to eat on a Daniel Fast diet. Each of the soups has only whole grains, no sugar, no animal products and nothing artificial making them vegan, vegetarian and gluten free. The Daniel fast radically changes, for a specific number of days, your food consumption by restricting commonly enjoyed foods. The fast is a religious rite based on the Book of Daniel, that is generally observed among Christians as an act of worship and consecration to God, as well as for enhancing personal prayer life. Directions: You’ll need 2 cups of mixed vegetable juice or 15 ounces of chopped tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and the lentil rice mixture. Sort & rinse lentils. In 3 quart saucepan add 6-1/2 cups water, the complete soup packet and your choice of V-8 juice or chopped tomatoes. Cover and simmer until lentils are tender and rice is cooked, about 1 hour. Stir occasionally to keep from scorching. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve! For crockpot cooking, add water, the entire soup mix and precooked meat to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6 hours (minimum) to 8 hours (maximum). Cook on high for 3 1/2 hours (minimum) to 5 (maximum). Add tomato right before serving. Enjoy. Cooking Variations:For the Daniel Fast Diet, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice, and/or 1 cup of your favorite fresh vegetable. For non-fast diet, try your choice of browned ground beef, ground turkey, ham or bacon. For vegetarian, prepare without meat or use a meat substitute. Makes 10 cups.
